One conversation can reach one more person

The Plus One Campaign, created by ALCSI and the Lung Cancer Research Foundation, asks a simple question that can start a life-changing conversation about lung cancer screening.

Do you know someone between 50 and 80 years old who has any smoking history?

That question invites people to think of a friend or family member who may benefit from learning about screening. It starts a conversation; it does not determine eligibility. A clinician can discuss the full screening criteria with them.

A community-based approach to earlier detection

ALCSI and LCRF developed Plus One to increase awareness of, access to, and use of lung cancer screening across the United States. Volunteers ask the question at community events so that information can travel from one person to another through trusted relationships.

The campaign also creates a referral network connecting university students with community members, friends, and families reached through outreach.

How the campaign grows

ALCSI’s stated campaign aims connect local pilot chapters with a broader national network.

01

Pilot in communities

Develop and test the campaign with 10 geographically diverse college chapters.

02

Expand the chapter network

Build on what works and extend the campaign to as many as 50 college chapters.

03

Strengthen referrals

Connect students, community members, friends, and families so more eligible people can move toward screening.

Start with the next conversation

Ask someone you care about to learn whether screening may be right for them. ALCSI chapters can find the current joining steps, outreach workflow, and materials in the member area.
